Delayed Evacuation Casualty Management (DECM)
Purpose:
Future military operations will demand the capability for sustaining a casualty in a place where little to no medical support beyond the combat medic is available. Today’s combat medic training consists of stabilizing patients at the point of injury utilizing principals taught in Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TC3) with an emphasis on preventing the Lethal Triad Acidosis, Coagulopathy and Hypothermia. The Prolonged Field Care Course provides students with the critical concepts that prepares them to stabilize and sustain patients in an extended care scenario and make good medical decisions that will improve physiological outcomes for their patients.
